The short version: Penwick is handwriting practice for children, made by MyAutobot Ltd in the United Kingdom. The lower-case letters, joins and assessment are free. A family subscription unlocks the rest, starts with a free trial, renews through the App Store or Google Play until you cancel, and covers every child on the device. We do not hold accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to close. These terms and our privacy policy are the whole agreement.
Penwick is used by children aged 5 to 9, but it is a parent, guardian or teacher who installs it, agrees to these terms and makes any purchase. If you are reading this, that is you. Please set the app up with your child rather than handing it over at the profile screen.
We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to install and use Penwick on devices you own or control, for the purpose of handwriting practice at home or in a classroom. You may not copy, sell, rent, modify, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app, its teacher-recorded letterforms, its artwork or its text, and you may not use it to build a competing product. Everything in the app remains the property of MyAutobot Ltd or its licensors.
Every lower-case letter, every letter join, the three-minute assessment and a number of practice sittings are free and stay free. Nothing in the alphabet is ever locked.
The Penwick family subscription unlocks unlimited practice, words, sentences, stories, the Story Quest and the detailed progress reports. It is sold in two lengths:
The price for your country and currency is shown in the app before you subscribe, on the App Store or Google Play listing, and on penwick.app. One subscription covers every child profile on the device, including ones you add later.
A new subscription starts with a 7-day free trial. Nothing is charged on the day you start it. When the trial ends the subscription renews automatically at the price shown, and it keeps renewing at the end of each period until you cancel. Your store account is charged within 24 hours before each period ends.
To cancel, use your store account, not the app: on Apple devices, Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play → Payments & subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or the current period ends to avoid the next charge. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the period already paid for, and the unlock stays until that period ends. Refunds are handled by the store you bought through under its own rules, because the store took the payment and we never see your card.
If we change a price, the store will tell you before it applies and, where the store requires it, ask you to agree. If you do not, the subscription ends at the close of the current period.
On a new device, open the pricing screen and tap Restore purchase. The unlock is tied to the App Store or Google Play account that bought it.
Penwick scores how a letter is formed and gives teacher-style feedback. It is a practice tool, not an assessment of a child's ability, a diagnosis of any condition, or a substitute for a teacher. Scores and levels are there to motivate practice and can be wrong. We work to make the app accurate and available but cannot promise it will be free of errors or never interrupted, and we may change or withdraw features, including free ones, as the app develops.
Profiles, writing and scores stay on the device. What can leave it, and how to switch each thing off, is set out in full in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the consumer law of the country you live in, including your right to a service provided with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, MyAutobot Ltd is not liable for loss that was not a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms, for business losses, or for any loss caused by your device, your network or the store you bought through. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for the subscription in the 12 months before the claim.
You can stop using Penwick at any time by deleting the app; cancel the subscription first if you do not want it to renew. We may end your licence if you break these terms in a way that matters, for example by copying the app or its content.
These terms are between you and MyAutobot Ltd, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and is not responsible for any claim relating to it or for addressing any claim that the app infringes a third party's rights. Where these terms say less than Apple's own Licensed Application End User License Agreement, that agreement also applies to your use of the app, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo and are not on any US Government list of prohibited parties.
If we change these terms, the date at the top changes with them and material changes are called out in the app's release notes. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that if you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU you keep the protection of your local law and courts.
